How to play
- White keys 1–16 play the pads of banks A and B (OCT +: C and D, a piano and chords; OCT −: back). The pad names are printed on the keys.
- Black keys are the loops 1–11. PLAY runs the loop, REC arms recording (PLAY counts in), REC again while playing overdubs. REC held 2 s clears the loop.
- KNOB 1–4 are the faders of channels 1–4 (SEL: 5–8). SELECT sets the tempo, ENV taps it.
- EDIT: the last pad's sample, tune, decay, truncation, filter, sends. FX: filter, chorus, delay, reverb. SEQ tapped: loop length, quantize, swing, songs; SEQ held: the 16 steps on the white keys.
- Hold FX + white keys 1–4: roll, roll, reverse, tape stop. Hold GLO + white keys: mute / solo. Hold LFO + a pad: erase its hits. ARP: the last pad over all 27 keys.
- SAVE keeps everything (it also saves by itself when stopped), here in this browser.
Hold a button with the mouse and play the computer keys at the same time; on a phone, use two fingers. All of it: the cheat sheet.
Computer keyboard
The letters are printed on the keys above. Two rows, like a piano:
| Keys C4 .. E5 | Z S X D C V G B H N J M , L . ; / |
|---|---|
| Keys F3 .. B3 | Q 2 W 3 E 4 R |
| Keys F5 .. G5 | I 9 O |
| Buttons | 1 HOME, 5 ENV, 7 LFO, 8 ARP, 0 SEQ, - EDIT, = GLO, [ FX, ] SAVE, Enter SEL, Space PLAY, \ REC, ← → OCT − / + |
| Knobs | ↑ ↓ PRESETS (the pad's sample); drag a knob up / down or scroll on it |
The positions are those of a US keyboard; on other layouts the same physical keys play.
MIDI
A MIDI keyboard or pad controller plays it as over USB on the device: notes 36–67 the pads A1–D8, Program Change 0–15 the loops 1–16.
Web MIDI works in Chrome, Edge, Opera and Firefox; not in Safari.
Your loops
Loops, sounds, songs and settings stay in this browser (localStorage), as the FM-1 keeps them in its flash.
Not in the simulator: USB. Your own samples (the sample editor), backup and the installer need a real FM-1 on a cable; here you play the factory kit.
